Barn and shed kitsets NZ

Practical kitset buildings for farms, lifestyle blocks and rural businesses.

NZ Barns supplies pre-engineered barn kits, shed kits, garage kits and rural storage structures for properties throughout New Zealand. Our range includes American barns, lean-to sheds, gable sheds, mono-pitch sheds, pole barns, clear-span buildings and steel-frame barns.

Each kitset is designed around practical use: machinery storage, hay and feed cover, workshops, vehicle garaging, animal shelter, covered yards and lifestyle block projects. Materials can include Colorsteel or Zincalume cladding, H5-treated poles, MSG8 timber framing, hot-dip galvanised brackets and council-ready engineering drawings.

Whether you are comparing a compact two-bay lean-to or a larger clear-span structure, NZ Barns can help match the kit size, cladding, bay layout, door package and delivery plan to your site and intended use.

For buyers researching shed prices in NZ, the most useful quote is one that separates the building kit, freight, consent support and optional installation. NZ Barns keeps that information clear so you can compare genuine kitset barn value against custom builds, imported shed packages and local contractor estimates.

Delivery is planned around the site, not just the nearest town. Tell us whether the project is on a dairy farm, dry-stock block, orchard, equestrian property, rural workshop, coastal site or lifestyle section, and we can recommend a kit layout that balances access, durability, usable floor area and long-term maintenance. That gives you a clearer path from early research to quote, consent documents, freight timing and construction.

Sizing the building

We help compare bay width, stud height, roof pitch, access doors and future expansion so the final barn or shed can handle the equipment, vehicles, feed, animals or workspace you need to protect.

Planning for site conditions

Your quote can consider wind zone, snow loading, exposure, drainage, truck access and local council requirements before the kit is finalised, which makes installation smoother for owner-builders and contractors.

Matching finish and use

Choose practical cladding, roofing, colour, roller door, personnel door and open-bay options for farm storage, lifestyle block garages, equestrian shelters, workshops, commercial storage or rural business operations.

Common Questions

Can't find your answer? Call +64 22 196 9021 or email info@nzbarns.co.nz.

Do I need a building consent for my barn?
It depends on size, intended use, and council. Many open-sided farm sheds under 30m² may be consent-free, but most habitable or larger structures require consent. Up to 110m² for certain agricultural-use structures may be exempt under Schedule 1 with CPEng review. We can guide you and supply council-ready engineering documentation.
Do you deliver throughout New Zealand?
Yes — every kit is delivered nationwide, North and South Island. Freight is quoted to your site address as part of your quote.
Can I install the kit myself?
Most of our kits are designed for owner-builders or local contractors. We also offer professional installation and can refer you to vetted builders in your region.
What materials are included?
Standard kits include Colorsteel® roof and cladding, H5-treated poles, MSG8 timber framing, and NZ Steel Zincalume options. Bracket sets, fixings and engineering drawings are included.
Are prices including or excluding GST?
All prices on this site are excluding GST and excluding freight unless stated otherwise. We provide a full itemised quote before you order.
Can the kit be customised?
Yes. Most layouts can be adjusted — additional bays, roller doors, lean-tos, colour choices, taller studs. Tell us what you need on the quote form.
What is the lead time?
Standard kits typically ship within 2–4 weeks of order confirmation. Steel-frame builds run 30–45 days from deposit. We confirm timing on every quote.
